Course Aims

The DP (Dynamic Positioning) Awareness training program is designed to provide participants with foundational knowledge about dynamic positioning systems, their components, and operational principles. This syllabus is suitable for individuals in various roles such as technical inspectors, fleet managers, and office personnel involved in offshore operations.

Course Objectives

Participants will be able to:

1. Define the principles of Dynamic Positioning (DP): Understand the basic concepts and importance of DP in maritime operations.
2. Recognize component parts of a DP system: Identify key components including sensors, computers, and propulsion units.
3. Understand vessel movement: Learn how position reference systems and feedback mechanisms influence vessel positioning.
4. Comprehend redundancy concepts: Grasp the importance of redundancy in ensuring operational safety.
5. Describe DP modes of control: Learn about different operational modes within DP systems.
6. Explain sensor operations: Understand how various position reference systems function.
7. Discuss computer operations: Gain insights into the role of computers in DP systems.
8. Detail propulsion unit configurations: Learn about different types and configurations of propulsion units.
9. Understand power supply management: Explore power supply systems and their redundancy features.
10. Practice communication protocols: Engage in exercises related to communication and watch handover procedures.
11. Knowledge DPO & DPVM Scheme.
12. Understand the Nautical Institute procedure: Regarding crew procedures for submitting DPO/DPVM.
