Course Aims

To provide a solid foundation in Dynamic Positioning (DP) principles, systems, and basic operations as preparation for DP sea time.

Course Objectives

On completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Explain the principles and purpose of DP in offshore operations.
  2. Identify the main components of a DP system (power, thrusters, control, PRS, sensors).
  3. Describe the function of Position Reference Systems (PRS) and environmental sensors.
  4. Understand power generation, distribution, and propulsion in DP vessels.
  5. Perform basic DP operations on a simulator in a safe and controlled manner.
